Red November 3rd announcement

Red is making a big announcement on November 3rd. There are no hints but they say its going to be big. Infact if you believe them it will out do Canon’s November 3rd announcement. We will all just have to wait and see and judge for ourselves.
Some of the news will be that you can order a Red “Scarlet” camera from November 3rd 6pm PST time. The Scarlet was a cut down version of the new Epic camera.

Reality TV Shows

I have just had a week and a half shoot for a very popular reality TV show. It was a big shoot with up to 16 Sony F800 XDcam cameras per day. We had a Super Techno crane, a Techno Crane and Jimmy Jib. It was a big setup and fun to shoot. I think it must have been among the biggest shoots ever done in Australia. The crew list was a who’s who of greatest technicians/ cameramen in Australia. It was good fun and a great experience. I can’t say which TV program it was as it hasn’t aired yet, But I am sure it will be a big hit when it goes to air.

Alexa, RED MX, 35mm, F3, Canon D1 and 16mm side by side

Check out this video. Its a camera test of six cameras, Alexa, RED MX, 35, F3, Canon D1 and 16 side by side. Its a great test because they have shot the same short film with each of the six cameras  under varied lighting conditions.

See if you can pick which camera shot which version. At the end it lets you know which short was shot on which camera.

Red MX
EOS 1DmkIV
Sony PMW F3 (was an engineering sample)
Aaton XTR PROD (Super 16)

Cooke S4’s were used except for the 1D, which had CP’s

Sony releases new version of XD Browser V1.21

Sony releases new version of XD Browser V1.21

XDB – the new Xdcam Browser software will be the same for both Mac and Windows. This still is early versions of the software so does not offer all the functionatity that the other Mac and PC version offer at this time.

It is great though to see Sony slowly releasing new version with improvements.
